AC CIULLA

Emmy Award winner and Tony Award nominee AC Ciulla has been choreographing for theater, film, music videos and television for over 25 years.

 

His work can be seen in the recently released box office hit Chinese film, Love Is A Broadway Hit.   As one of the youngest choreographers in Broadway history, Mr. Ciulla received Tony & Outer Critics Circle Award nomination’s for his footwork in the Broadway hit Musical Footloose @Richard Rodgers Theater. AC won the Fany (audience choice) Award that season for the best dancing on Broadway.  He also set the National Tour and two smash hit Japanese productions starring Japans biggest Pop Stars.  Ciulla received Lucille Lortel & Audelco Award nominations for his critically acclaimed work in Kirsten Child’s, The Bubbly Black Girl Sheds Her Chameleon Skin Musical, starring Tony winner LaChanze @Playwrights Horizons. AC was honored with a Joe A Callaway Award nomination for his staging of Willard Beckham’s,  Lucky Guy musical @The Little Shubert theatre.  Other Off-Broadway work includes Ghetto Superstar starring Tony winner Billy Porter, produced by George C Wolf @The Public Theater and Bill Russell’s, The Last Smoker In America @The Westside Theater. AC staged an all-star benefit production of Chess, featuring Matthew Morrison @The Ford Amphitheater, L.A.  Most recently Ciulla choreographed the musical Big River @Sacramento Music Circus.  Other Regional Theater work includes Stephen Sondheim’s Being Alive, directed by Billy Porter @Westport Country Playhouse and The Little Mermaid @North Shore Theater. The Musical Vices: A Love Story @The Caldwell Theater. A  sophisticated exploration of relationships told through music and dance, garnered AC the 2010 Carbonell Award for Best Choreography.  Ciulla co-created and choreographed the hit Vegas show, Toni Braxton: Revealed for the Flamingo Las Vegas showroom, (two-year run)..as well as the six-time Grammy Award-winning recording artist’s celebrated Libra Tour and live NBA All-star performance. Other recording artists include Grammy Award-winning vocalist Billy Porter. Most recently AC created a live touring show for the six-person a cappella band Duwende.

"Fun fact" AC was Pop  Star, Debbie Gibson's first choreographer.  Mr. Ciulla directed and choreographed the critically acclaimed Broadway musical revues, Nights on Broadway II & III for Caesar’s showroom in Atlantic City featuring many of Broadway’s biggest stars.Film work includes Gray Matters starring Heather Graham and Bridget Moynahan and most recently, Love Is Broadway Hit. Ciulla won the 2003 Emmy Award for “Outstanding Choreography of a Television Special” for his innovative work set on Olympic figure skating champions for the world-renowned Tour, Stars On Ice.  Other television credits include One Life To Live. - a three day (Directors Guild Award) winning musical event, The new version of The Electric Company (PBS). AC directed and choreographed the 1-800-OK-CABLE Move To Triple Play dance commercial. Others include Intel, AT&T, Dr. Pepper, NY Lottery, Verizon Droid and a Busby Berkeley style musical E*TRADE spot which aired as one of the top five Super Bowl commercials.  AC appeared as a guest choreographer for three seasons on the international hit show So You Think You Can Dance (UA), where he was named “the king of contemporary dance”.
